Player Expectations

Fightin' Irish Men's Soccer – 2018

A tentative game schedule is available at www.springfieldcatholicsoccer.org.  It can be found under the Pre Season Handouts page.  Be aware, this schedule may change as games may be rescheduled on short notice at any time during the season due to weather or other conflicts that may arise.  We will pass along all schedule changes as soon as we become aware of them.

Commitment.  Soccer is a team sport and as such requires a strong commitment from each player and their family. We have been extremely successful in the past due to the commitment of the players and their families who have participated in the program.  If you choose to participate in the soccer program at SCHS it is expected that you will make the soccer team your #1 priority outside of school.

Players have been advised that in order to play Varsity, they must be able to complete a two mile run in under 13 minutes, 45 seconds and complete 150 consecutive juggles.

Making soccer your #1 priority means you can be involved in as many other activities during the season as you and your parents feel you can handle, but these activities cannot conflict (directly or indirectly) with soccer practices or games.  This does not mean you must come to practice or a game if you are sick or a family emergency arises, but at all other times you are expected to be with your team.  It is highly recommended that players discuss participation in other activities before the season begins.

The key point here is:  Anytime you miss practice or a game it hurts you AND the team regardless of whether you are the greatest or least skilled player.

Practice.  Practice will usually be from 3:30 – 5:30 each day during the school week for about the first month.  Starting sometime in September practices will go 3:30 – 5:00  Each player must wear the practice shirt that was provided for you  and bring shin guards, cleats, running shoes and appropriate clothing to every practice.

Note #1: All players and parents are requested to register their contact information on our soccer website.  This is how we communicate through e-mails with parents.  In addition, be sure to download the “Remind” app to your smartphones.  This is the main form of communication between coaches and players.  After the app is downloaded, enter 81010 in the “To:” section. Then enter “@300add” in the message section.  This is used for last minute schedule changes.

Note #2: Our first game this year is Tuesday, 8/28/18.  Each player must have 14 practices prior to being eligible to play in a game.

Physical Exams.  Each player must have a physical exam form on file with the high school office before August 3rd.  If you have not already had a physical you need to pick up a form from the office, have it completed by a physician, return it to the high school, and give a copy to me.  In either case you cannot participate until the Athletic Director has received your physical form.
